The most bronze-leaved and floriferous of Lobelia we’ve grown, the Starship Bronze Scarlet Cardinal Flower features tall spikes of intense scarlet red flowers all summer and fall above the darkest bronze foliage we’ve seen. The hummingbirds and butterflies won’t have any trouble finding the flowers and will thank you for planting this one. A wonderful, easy to grow native that prefers moisture retentive soil and full sun to part shade. Plant it near patios, garden ponds and other outdoor sitting or living spaces where the brilliant flowers and hummingbirds feeding can be enjoyed from close up.

The Starship Bronze Scarlet Cardinal Flower is perfect for planting in sunny to partially shaded sites with a moisture retentive but well draining soil, such as near ponds, streams, lakes and other sites. A fine addition to the edges of bog gardens, perennial gardens, cottage gardens, and red theme gardens.

Lobelia isn’t too fussy about soil but grows best in a consistently moist soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Too much shade and flowering will be diminished. In full sun it will need adequate moisture. At least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day is suggested for best flowering. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal. Feed in spring with an organic plant food.
