Description
One of if not the most impressive of the hardy Hibiscus we’ve ever laid eyes on, ‘Holy Grail’ might well be the holy grail of Hibiscus! It is definitely a super-special one adored for both its foliage and flowers. Dinnerplate-size deep red flowers come early to mid summer and continue well into fall contrasting beautifully with the incredibly deep near-black foliage. This cold hardy Hibiscus makes an unforgettable focal point with bold color and texture for a tropical look and feel to landscapes in USDA Zones 4 to 9.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 4.5 feet tall and 4.5 to 5 feet wide, the Holy Grail Hibiscus makes a bold and beautiful specimen in the landscape or in large containers. Especially impressive in groupings of three or as a colorful hedge. Because it blooms all summer and into fall, and has such bold foliage, it makes a nice backdrop or centerpiece in flower gardens. A natural in butterfly and hummingbird gardens and for adding a tropical flare to your outdoor living spaces.
Suggested Spacing:Â 4 feet apart for hedge;Â 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Hardy Hibiscus are very easy to grow. They prefer a moist but well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine, though some shade is tolerated. During prolonged periods of summer drought plants will appreciate supplemental water to bloom their best. Maintenance is minimal requiring just one pruning a year to prune plants back to ground when new growth begins to emerge in spring.

We gave this gorgeous red Rose Mallow as a house warming gift for our nephew. Strong plant arrived and already blooming. I’ve had one for 4 years and it had 110 blooms first round this spring. Prolific bloomer if you keep it moist. Worth the wait!——————————————–Thanks for the kind words and wonderful review! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope your nephew enjoys it for years to come! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Plant was delivered in great condition. Have planted and hope to see a blossom this year yet. Hoping it will survive the winter here in zone 4. Read about others surviving in MN so wanted to get one planted. Always great plants from Wilson Bros!! Looks healthy but is small, and although I planted in a great spot, our heat is already oppressive. Watering often and cannot wait until it blooms. The leaves are a gorgeous deep dusty black!! These plants arrived in good condition and packaged well. So far, they’re thriving.——————————Thanks for the photo. We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
This plant arrived as expected; the packaging was so substantial that there was no damage to the plant in shipping at all. It actually arrived with some blooms that had not opened, and I wasn’t sure it would do anything this year because it was late September. I followed all the directions from Wilson Brothers on how to plant. Within ten days, the blooms started to open, and the plant is absolutely beautiful. While it is only a one gallon pot, the blooms didn’t know. The plant is still a baby, but the blooms look like a mature bush. I will definitely order from this site again. They are great to deal with, and they have such a wide variety of plants—no need to look elsewhere.———————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! My Holy Grail arrived in a great shape in early August, despite the heat. It arrived with several buds, some of which dropped, but after planting (Eastern exposure, morning sun), it’s done great and is blooming steadily. It’s hard to capture the deep red hue in a photograph.——————————————-Thanks for the photo! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! I was a bit hesitant to order a 1 gallon plant online, but it arrived quickly, perfectly packaged, and in great condition. All for about the same cost as the local nursery (when they were in stock).
