The Rising Sun Redbud Tree – 5 Gallon Pot

We now have 6 Rising Sun Redbuds. They are very Hardy, my definition. I call Hardy, anything that can survive the 114 degrees, for weeks, here, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Big heart shaped leaves, ranging from beige, to dark green and yellow, bring a smile to my face. They really compliment a garden. And, if that’s not enough, their flowers in early spring are a brilliant pink, even covering the tree limbs. As usual, Wilson Brothers, sent us beautiful plants. I ordered the “Rising Sun” redbud in a 5-gallon pot after reading on the Wilson Bros website that “this has become our favorite redbud”…reading that, I was sold. The tree arrived quickly and was VERY carefully packed to avoid damage in transit. In addition, the rootball & pot were topped with moist paper & then wrapped in plastic to keep the rootball moist. After unpacking though, I noticed that 3 large branches had been pruned near the middle-to-top of the tree canopy. I called the Wilson Bros telephone & described the above. The employee I spoke with was initially as puzzled as I was, but then when she asked how tall the tree was (6 feet), we both realized why the branches had to be pruned…In order to fit into the shipping box, those longer branches had to be pruned. Doing that was clearly better than trying to bend longer branches into the shipping box. I was VERY impressed with the helpfulness & knowledge of the lady with whom I spoke, and despite the pruning, also VERY impressed with the quality of the tree & my whole experience at Wilson Bros. THe tree arrived within a couple of days in excellent condition. It was larger than I expected (similar to the 15 gal one at the local nursery). I planted it within a day and it is healthy and sprouting leaves and stems already.. Very happy with the service and the tree. 4/5 stars. The tree had full leaves and was further along than other trees I have purchased from other online vendors this spring. Unfortunately, we had a series of near freezing and windy days about a week after I had received and planted the tree. All of the leaves have withered and most have fallen off. Hoping to see signs of new growth soon, if not I’ll try again next year since these trees seem to be hard to find.——————————————————Hopefully it will bounce back and be just fine. I had reached out to find out the height of the 5 gallon plant and would the tree be in bud, I was answered promptly. Placed an order and it arrived within days. It was packaged really well and wasn’t dried out from transport. It had a few leaves and a bunch of buds.
It is planted and leafing out like crazy. Once in the ground, it is taller than me 5′ 8″. Ordered this tree in advance of my spring planting. 5 gal pot tree is a good size and the packaging was the best of any plant I have ever ordered online. Tree looks healthy, but since it’s deciduous and it’s still “winter”, the jury remains out. It’s currently in my garage waiting for the ground to thaw 🙂

I love purchasing trees from Wilson Bros and Gardens. They have very healthy trees and the packaging is thorough. I never have to worry about my orders, which is a good thing! The tree arrived, well packaged, and with some leaves (which I was expecting) because it’s fall after all. The leaves have since fallen, and I’ve chosen not to plant the tree yet. I’m not sure about planting it in November where I live. That said, I have the tree well protected and I am looking forward to spring for the new buds and then the leaves themselves. I own three different Red Bud trees and I am expecting that this one will be my favorite. I’m also eyeing a few more Red Bud trees for my 5 acres. I had bought a Rising Sun Redbud from another online retailer and it was the worst tree I’ve ever seen. It was also smaller and more expensive than what I got here.
I actually called the nursery before ordering to ask about the different sizes. Very friendly and helpful service. I went with the 5 gallon size. It’s about five feet tall and came very well packaged and not dried out at all. Very nice specimen. My only gripe would be that it didn’t come secured to a bamboo stake. So, I had to buy one and do that myself.——————————–So sorry you had to buy a stake, usually if the tree has a strong enough trunk, we don’t stake them.
